New Standard for Impact Protection
Setting the standard in impact protection - Majestic Glove
ANSI/ISEA 138, the American national standard for performance and classification for impact resistant hand protection, is now official.
This standard establishes minimum performance, classification and labeling requirements for gloves designed to protect the knuckles and fingers from impact forces while performing occupational tasks.
ANSI/ISEA 138 evaluates gloves for their capability to dissipate impact forces on the knuckles and fingers and classify them accordingly. The resulting classifications can be used consistently to compare different hand protection products on an equal basis, relative to the tasks being performed.
New Levels of Protection
There are three performance levels, giving greater choice and flexibility to the end-user.
Level 1 offers the lowest protection, level 3 the highest.
Under the standard, a higher performance level indicates a greater degree of protection. A glove’s overall performance level reflects the lowest performance level recorded. So if fingers and thumb meet level 1 but knuckles level 2, the glove will still be rated as performance level 1. The performance level must be visible and legible throughout the normal useful life of the glove.
Majestic’s impact resistant gloves feature injection molded technology that strategically places protective exoskeleton shields over the back of hand and fingers. These shields provide a critical defense against metacarpal impacts and abrasions while maintaining the dexterity and comfort you’ve come to expect from Majestic.
For ultimate, high impact protection that meets these new standards, Majestic’s line of Concussion gloves is engineered with D3O – the world’s leading impact protection and shock absorption material – to provide an average of 50% more impact protection over traditional thermoplastic gloves.
On impact, soft, free flowing D3O molecules lock together to absorb impact energy and reduce the force transmitted. These molecules are strain rate sensitive meaning the stronger the impact, the more the molecules react, and the better the protection.
Whether you need back-of-hand, knuckle, and finger protection from common bumps or ultimate protection from extreme impact hazards, Majestic’s impact resistant gloves will help provide the protection you need in the workplace.
D3O has published several articles and whitepapers to help businesses understand how ANSI/ISEA 138 works.
